Prof Helen Murphy trained in reproductive endocrinology in Australia and New Zealand. She returned to the UK in 2001 to pursue a career in clinical academic medicine. Her doctoral and postdoctoral research focused on diabetes self-management integrating educational and technological interventions into routine clinical care in the UK NHS. She has been a consultant physician at Cambridge University NHS Foundation Trust since 2006 and a professor of medicine at University of East Anglia since 2015. She is the lead diabetes pregnancy clinician for the multidisciplinary diabetes pregnancy service at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. Her diabetes pregnancy research programme aims to improve the day to day glucose control, using new closed-loop artificial pancreas technologies, in pregnant women with type 1 diabetes.
